LANSING – Michigan State Senator Marshall Bullock II (D-Detroit) was elected today to chair the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus (MLBC) for the 2021-22 session. Sen. Bullock was elevated to chairperson in November 2019 following the election of former MLBC chairperson and State Representative Sheldon Neeley’s election as mayor of Flint, Michigan. Sen. Bullock served as 1st Vice Chairperson under then-Representative Neeley.
Sen. Bullock was elected unanimously to serve a two-year term, starting immediately. The election was supervised by former State Representative and current 36th District Court Judge William McConico.
“We’re moving forward in a positive and unified way, tackling the challenges of our urban communities and working toward a better quality of life for all Michiganders in the areas of criminal justice reform, education, health disparities and economic and workforce development, in particular,” Neeley said.
Other MLBC officers elected at today’s meeting are: Sen. Erika Geiss (D-Taylor), Executive Vice Chair; Rep. Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing), 1st Vice Chair; Rep. Brenda Carter (D-Pontiac), 2nd Vice Chair; Rep. Felicia Brabec (D-Ann Arbor), Secretary; Rep. Amos O’Neal (D-Saginaw), Treasurer; Rep. Padma Kuppa (D-Troy), Historian; Sen. Adam Hollier (D-Detroit), Sergeant-at-Arms/Parliamentarian; and Rep. Stephanie Young (D-Detroit), Chaplain.
