LANSING – “Governor Gretchen Whitmer last night proved in her State of the State address why she is the type of leader we need to shepherd our state through one of the most difficult periods in Michigan’s history,” said Senator Marshall Bullock, chair of the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus (MLBC). “Last year was challenging for all of us, and it was especially tough on Black and Brown people who have battled persistent inequalities for generations, made even more visible because of the pandemic.”
Sen. Bullock added, “In every decision, Governor Whitmer has demonstrated herself to be an ally for People of Color in every community of our state. She’s supported and walked alongside with us in our calls for racial justice and social equity; addressed many of the racial disparities of COVID-19; and implemented the Black Leadership Advisory Council to ensure that our voices are heard. With her Covid-19 recovery plan – and the other issues addressed during the State of the State – we know that Michigan is in better hands with her at the helm, and the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus looks forward to accomplishing great things with her this year.”
