SAGINAW, Mich., Jan. 27, 2026 — State Rep. Amos O’Neal (D-Saginaw) has been appointed Chair of Region IX of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL), representing Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.

“I’m deeply honored and grateful for the trust placed in me,” O’Neal said. “Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin share a common bond in our working people, our industrial roots and our shared belief in fairness, dignity and opportunity. While we may face different challenges, our values are deeply aligned. I am committed to fostering collaboration among our states and working in good faith to deliver results for the people we serve.” 

As regional chair, O’Neal will help coordinate policy collaboration and leadership among lawmakers across the three Midwestern states, advancing strategies that promote equity, economic opportunity and effective governance at the state level.

The NBCSL is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to developing and promoting public policies that advance the well-being of Black communities and underserved populations nationwide.
